Atlantis - Where is it now?

After hearing so many stories and fables of this place throughout my life, and seeing so many plausible links within books, TV shows, online videos, then text links between data, So i thought id collect a few theories together for you to read for yourselves, then be able to make up your own minds on the whole thing. Or maybe even end up being more confused than you already were,

1. Antarctica?

There has been an incredible amount of interest in Antarctica by many countries over the past few years and they are being pretty quiet about the reasoning behind it.

(Andrew Collins Findings -)

"Ever since the great American horror writer Edgar Allen Poe wrote about a lost city in Antarctica in his `The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym', which appeared in 1838, arguments have raged on whether or not this frozen continent once supported human life.

Although Antarctica is the only major continent that has never produced any evidence of human occupation, it was Professor Charles Hapgood of Keene College, New Hampshire, who first drew attention to the fact that the continent appears on ancient portolans (port to port nautical charts) that long antedate the discovery of Antarctica by Capt. James Cooke in 1773-4. More important, some of these maps appear to show the landmass as it was before the ice obliterated its coastal features. In his opinion, these nautical charts were constructed from age-old source maps that had been copied and re-copied across many thousands of years and were the handiwork originally of a sophisticated sea-faring culture that existed as early as 7000 BC.

Hapgood pointed out that although most estimates suggest that Antarctica became icebound as much as 300,000 years ago, core samples from the Ross Sea area show evidence of pollen spectra from a relatively green environment as late as 4000 BC. He also proposes that the ice only fully engulfed the landmass following a polar shift in c. 9500 BC, a date coinciding with the end of the last Ice Age. All these ideas are outlined in Hapgood's extraordinary book Maps of the Ancient Seekings, first published in 1966.

Spurred by Hapgood's theories of a pre-ice Antarctica and a polar shift at the end of the glacial age, Canadian writers Rose and Rand Flem-ath proposed in their 1995 book When the Sky Fell that the Antarctic continent was Plato's Atlantis. They pointed out that this huge landmass matches Plato's description of the island in both the Timaeus and Critias, which he asserts was the size of Libya (North Africa) and Asia put together. Furthermore, Antarctica lies beyond the Pillars of Hercules as also stated by Plato. ........ (Read More)

Interesting Atlantis / Antarctica Vid

So what do you think, could it be Antarctica which i have many theories on right now but we would be here all day, So next up, could it be-->

2. Sahara Desert?

Often referred to as the "Richat Structure" or "Eye of the Sahara" this is another really interesting place that could be the fabled Atlantis, The story was that the city resided in an eye shaped lake within a network of circular channels, this theory would work if the sea had rose then maybe covered this area in sand as it reset, slowly uncovering what now looks to be an eye shape which if you look can even now be seen on

( Bright Insight Atlantis vid -)

"Not only did the lost city of Atlantis actually exist, but its true location has been hiding in plain sight for thousands of years, completely unnoticed, as we’ve been looking in all the wrong places...Since everyone assumes that it must be under the ocean somewhere, such as in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea, which have long been considered to be the most likely places for its existence."

So we start scratching our heads at this point huh, so where was it..? The Sahara?.... hmmmm,

Or could it even have been swallowed up by the --->

3. Bermuda Triangle

Inspired by Donnelly --Ignatius Donnelly a U.S. Congressman, populist writer, and amateur scientist. known primarily now for his fringe theories concerning Atlantis, Catastrophism (especially the idea of an ancient impact event affecting ancient civilizations)--,

Many later writers expanded on his theories and added their own speculations as to where Atlantis may have been. One of these writers was Charles Berlitz, grandson of the founder of the well-known language schools, and author of many books on paranormal phenomena. In the 1970s, Berlitz claimed Atlantis was a real continent located off the Bahamas that had fallen victim to the notorious “Bermuda Triangle,” a region of the Atlantic where a number of ships had supposedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Supporters of this theory point to the discovery of what look like man-made walls and streets found off the coast of Bimini, although scientists have evaluated these structures and found them to be natural beach-rock formations.

Well there you go, another possible place to confuse this whole Story translation - did it sink into the sea off the coast of Bimini again you decide..

haha so you may have thought i was gonna leave it there but "hells to the naw" we have quite a few more stops yet -

4. Santorini

The island of Thera (Santorin) - In an eruption that may have created tidal wave destroying Knossus and wiping out the Minoans. One of the more recent Atlantean theories concerns the civilization that flourished on the Greek islands of Crete and Thera (now Santorini) more than 4,000 years ago: the Minoans, named for the legendary King Minos. Believed to be Europe’s first great civilization, the Minoans built splendid palaces, constructed paved roads and were the first Europeans to use a written language. At the height of their power, however, the Minoans suddenly disappeared from history–an enduring mystery that has fueled belief in a link between this great, doomed civilization and Plato’s Atlantis. Historians believe around 1600 B.C., a massive earthquake shook the volcanic island of Thera, triggering an eruption that spewed 10 million tons of rock, ash and gas into the atmosphere. Tsunamis that followed the eruption were large enough to wipe out Minoan cities throughout the region, a devastation that may have made the Minoans vulnerable to invaders from the Greek mainland.

so were the stories of the eruption in Greece being the cause of the collapse of the Minoan civilization now what we know as the story of Atlantis? well here we go again maybe it could be in the-->

5. Black Sea

-- Prof. Dr. Siegfried G. Schoppe Christian M. Schoppe, MBA --

Presenting the theory that Atlantis was a late stone age (Neolithic or Chalcolithic) settlement in today’s northwest of the Black Sea. It was drowned 5510 BC when the ocean flooded the freshwater lake that existed before the Black Sea.

In 1997 American Marine-Geologists Walter Pitman and William Ryan published the scientific evidence, that today’s Black Sea used to be a freshwater-lake. Its shoreline then was approximately 350 feet below today’s level of the global ocean. By dating fresh- and saltwater shells with there method they found, that the salinity of the lake changed rapidly from fresh to salty around 5500 BC. They call this Noah’s Flood and we are convinced that this interpretation is true.

The reason for this change is the increase of the level of the global ocean since the end of the last ice age, which peaked 20.000 BC. Then the level was 350 feet lower than today. Even 5500 BC when the flood happened, the level was still 45 feet lower. Due to the steady increase at some point in time the former land connection between Europe and Asia at today’s Bosporus (at the city of Istanbul) had to break and release the salt water of the Mediterranen/Marmara Sea into the Black Sea basin with its lower shoreline. ........Read More

So we have got to have an idea as to where we think Atlantis is by now? Well actually i do have a few more possibilities for you, so let's read on-->

6. Mu (lost continent)

Mu is the name of a suggested lost continent whose concept and name were proposed by 19th-century traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon, who claimed that several ancient civilizations, such as those of Egypt and Mesoamerica, were created by refugees from Mu—which he stated was located in the Atlantic Ocean. This concept was popularized and expanded by James Churchward, who asserted that Mu was once located in the Pacific The existence of Mu was already being disputed in Le Plongeon's time. Currently scientists dismiss the concept of Mu (and other alleged lost continents such as Lemuria as physically impossible, arguing that a continent can neither sink nor be destroyed in the short period of time required by this premise

"Plot twist: Hawaii is actually a part of Mu after it got devoured almost entirely by the pacific ocean"

well who knows? do you? because im kinda lost at this point, but seriously there are more people with "The Real Theory" of where it is so lets keep going shall we-->

7. Malta

Being situated in the dividing line between the western and eastern Mediterranean Sea, and being home to some of the oldest man-made structures in the world, is considered a possible location of Atlantis both by some current researchers and by Maltese amateur enthusiasts. In the 19th century, the antiquarian Giorgio Grognet de Vassé published a short compendium detailing the theory that Malta was the location of Atlantis. His theory was inspired by the discovery of the megalithic temples of Ġgantija and Ħaġar Qim during his lifetime. However, in 1828, the same Giorgo Grongnet was involved in a scandal concerning forged findings which were intended to provide a "proof" for the claim that Malta was Atlantis - Ooh erk maybe not then, lets check for a vid...

all interesting information but, as per normal here i am to add more confusion to the mix,

we do have another contender-->

8. North Sea (Doggerland)

Once Atlantis could have existed in the North Sea an area known as Doggerland was home to a huge civilisation but was destroyed in 2194 BC caused by a submarine landslide off the coast of Norway, Atland also a land mass within the north sea was also hailed to have been Atlantis but who knows at this point?

This guy maybe? -> Jean Deruelle wrote The "true heart of Europe" -It was inevitable that Doggerland, the part of the North Sea which was left dry for several thousand years after the end of the last ice age, should come to be considered as one more possible location for Plato's Atlantis. Doggerland stretched all the way from the east coast of England and Scotland to Denmark and supported a thriving mesolithic population. "It was the true heart of Europe," says Richard Bates, geochemist at St Andrews University in Scotland. It struggled for several millennia against the rising sea levels, then was submerged in a sudden catastrophe at a date estimated between 6200 B.C. and 5500 B.C. (Maybe caused by, or connected to the Störegga Landslide). Robert Graves himself had briefly considered the area of shallows known as Dogger Bank as a possible location for Atlantis, before dismissing it on grounds of distance. As it happens, more than a decade before geologists focused attention on Doggerland at a 2012 meeting of the British Royal Society, a Frenchman, Jean Deruelle, had published a book making a strongly argument case for the notoriously elusive "Great Plain" of Atlantis having been situated on now submerged land in the North Sea. He published his hypotheses in 1999, in a book called "L'Atlantide des Mégalithes," as part of a broader examination of the spread of megalithic cultures and little studied West to East movements of populations. The book was published by a reputable publisher of historic books, but received scant attention........Read More

So I'm sure there are many more theories on what happened to Atlantis, My fav of all being that they all existed, Atlantis was the race of people not a single place as they were known to travel and explore, so their influence was probably seen all over the planet, However, the reasoning behind the complete eradication from what we know as "History" or "His-Story" is very strange. Or maybe this could mean what we all fear, that the Fable is just that, a bed time story told over the years, and marveled over (with the super starry eyes and making with the drools) of a futuristic race of people that might take us away from paying all these damn bills.

That's all i have to say about that
